Animals That Cause the MOST Human Deaths?
Episode 11: What would you say is the most dangerous animal on Earth? Sharks? Snakes? Bears? The animal kingdom has some pretty deadly animals, but have you ever wondered what the world’s most dangerous animals are? Well… here is a list of the top 10 most dangerous animals on earth.
Note: All calculations have wide error margins.
How did LIFE begin on earth?
Episode 10: Two popular theories on how life was created on earth are…
1. The Primordial Soup Theory suggest that 3.8 billion to 3.55 billion years ago life began in a pond or ocean as a result of the combination of chemicals from the atmosphere and some form of energy to make amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, which would then evolve into the first species on Earth.
2. Panspermia, the theory that life on the earth originated from microorganisms or chemical precursors of life present in outer space and able to initiate life on reaching a suitable environment.
Tardigrades can withstand…
1. Temperatures from 1 K to ~420 K
2. Tardigrades in the tun state could survive a pressure of 600 megapascals (MPa). At these crushing pressures, proteins and DNA are ripped apart!
3. Ionizing radiation hundreds of times higher than the lethal dose for a human
4. Vacuum of outer space
5. 30+ years without food or water!
Why do we have CRUSHES?
Episode 9: Having a crush on someone is very similar to being addicted to drugs. The limbic brain, the same part that gets addicted to drugs is responsible for the feelings you have when you develop a crush. Our limbic brain hasn’t evolved since two million years ago; therefore, the kinds of things that we normally find attractive have not changed since then.
It’s tough, asking a person to get over a crush is like asking a heroin addict to quit. It really is not that easy. Once your limbic system is used to the regular level of dopamine coming in, it’s going to make you do things; whether you like it or not.
Asian Flush and CANCER
Episode 8: Asian flush, also widely known as Asian glow happens to certain people of Asian descent after they have consumed alcohol. The Asian flush affects about 36% percent of Northeast Asians, primarily Chinese, Japanese and Koreans. The Asian flush is due to the body detecting a threat and triggering an immune response. When people drink alcohol, the liver has to break down a chemical called ethanol. The liver does this using two enzymes, ADH and ALDH-2. However, the problem arises when people have a mutated ALDH2 gene. As a result, people with this mutation accumulate a toxic substance called acetaldehyde at a level about 6 TIMES HIGHER than normal people.
WatchHow to AVOID a Bear Attack
Episode 7: The chances of being killed by a bear while visiting the Yellowstone National park is 1 in 2.1 million. The good news is that it is not likely that you will be killed or attacked by a bear. However, for those unfortunate people with extremely bad luck, here is a video on how to avoid bear attacks.
Assuming a brown bear has not yet attacked and slapped you in the face, you should slowly and quietly begin backing away. If a black bear is about to attack you, well…then wipe those tears off your face and get ready to fight for your life.
Some myths and misconceptions:
1. Grizzly bears cannot climb trees? FALSE, both grizzly and black bears can climb trees.
2. Bears cannot run downhill because their front legs are shorter than their hind legs. FALSE, bears can outrun you no matter where you try to run, don’t believe us? Go run away from a bear downhill and see for yourself.
Why do SPICY foods burn our mouth?
Episode 6: Each taste bud contains 50 to 100 taste receptor cells. Some of which belong to a special class of vanilloid receptor called VR1 receptors. It turns out that spicy foods contain an active ingredient called capsaicin that is able to bind onto and activate the VR1 receptors.
WatchHow does the INTERNET work?
Episode 5: The internet is an awesome and sophisticated platform, but it actually isn’t that complicated to understand. When broken down to its simplest form, the internet is just a series of systematic steps to ensure that people get what they are requesting. So that when you are searching for cat videos on Youtube, you actually get cat videos and not videos of WWE WrestleMania.
WatchHow big is the UNIVERSE?
Episode 3: The universe is really, really big. If the Milky Way was the size of a grain of sand, the universe would be the size of a cathedral in comparison. So yeah, the universe is unimaginably huge, tremendously vast, and full of mysteries.
